    Written by Ethan Bernard

More than 1,200 workers at National Steel Car in Hamilton, Ontario, went on strike last week following the rejection of a contract offer, according to a report by CBC News on Aug. 13.

The workers, represented by United Steelworkers (USW) Local 7135, voted to strike last Tuesday evening and took to the picket lines at midnight Wednesday, the article said. Key issues include wages and pensions.

Canadian firm National Steel Car manufactures freight railcars. The company’s last work stoppage over a contract dispute occurred in 2023 and lasted over a month.

Requests for comment from USW Canada and National Steel Car were not returned by time of publication.
