Steel Summit: Algoma's Shukla wins 2026 SMU NexGen Leadership Award

Algoma Steel’s Piyush Shukla has been named the 2026 SMU NexGen Leadership Award winner.

Shukla, manager of risk, strategy, and market intelligence at the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario-based steelmaker, received the award on Tuesday at SMU Steel Summit 2026 in Atlanta.

The award was presented by Chris Graham, senior vice president of Steel Dynamics Inc.’s flat roll steel group. Sponsors of the award include SDI, SMU, Modern Metals Magazine, and Flack Global Metals.

It recognizes emerging leaders whose contributions are helping to shape the future of the steel industry.
