Nucor maintains plate prices, opens October orderbook

    Written by David Schollaert

Nucor said on Friday that its Plate Group plans to maintain base plate prices as it opens its October orderbook.

The Charlotte, N.C.-based steelmaker said in a letter to customers that orders must be submitted by Sept. 18 to be considered.

The company said, however, some adders would be updated, including HSLA Grade 50 steel plate—widely used for structural and heavy-duty load-bearing projects. The adder was doubled to $5 per hundredweight (cwt) or $100 per short ton (st).

Adders for as-rolled light gauge plate will range from $3/cwt ($60/st) to $8/cwt ($160/st) depending on gauge, according to Nucor Plate Group’s adders page.

SMU’s price assessment for plate currently stands at $1,395/st on average, as of Tuesday, Aug. 25, flat vs. the prior week.
