Rocky Mountain Steel Mills, USW agree to new 5-year agreement

Rocky Mountain Steel Mills and the United Steelworkers (USW) union have reached a new five-year collective bargaining agreement.
The contract covers ~900 employees at the Pueblo, Colo., steel mill and its front office.
Some details of the contract include improvements in wages and health care, guaranteed bonuses, and pension benefits.
“This agreement reflects what can be accomplished when a company and its workforce are committed to building a strong future together,” Eric Shuster, president of Rocky Mountain Steel Mills, said in a joint statement with the USW on Friday.
The union also praised the agreement.
“This contract sets all of us up for a successful next five years,” said Charles Perko, president of USW Local 3267.
USW workers ratified the agreement on Aug. 27. It goes into effect on Sept. 11, when the current four-year collective bargaining agreement expires.
This comes as negotiations continue between USW and steelmakers Cleveland-Cliffs and U.S. Steel. Labor contracts with both companies expired on Sept. 1 but were extended by 30 days just ahead of the deadline.
Rocky Mountain Steel makes standard and premium rail products, wire rod and rebar, and seamless oil country tubular goods (OCTG). The company has an annual capacity of 1.1 million tons of EAF-based steel.
