CSI Raises Flat Rolled Price by $70

California Steel Industries informed customers Wednesday that, “due to changing market conditions,” it has increased transaction prices for its products by $70 per ton. The change applies immediately to new orders of hot rolled, P&O, cold rolled and galvanized products.
“All pricing is subject to slab availability and mill capacity,” the company said in its letter to customers. SMU learned from sources that the increase is not related to President Trump’s tweet about possible 25 percent duties being levied on Brazilian slabs. However, should the tariffs actually go into place, CSI customers can expect to be hit with further price increases.
Domestic flat rolled steel producers have announced three rounds of price increases since late October totaling $110 per ton. The last price increase announced by CSI was a $40 hike on July 10, thus yesterday’s $70 increase brings it to parity with the other mills.
CSI also said its February flat rolled order book is now open.
