Final Thoughts

On days like today I am reminded of one of my steel customers who, when purchasing his original SMU membership back in 2008 told me, “I don’t know what you are going to write about in a couple of months.”
I had to actually leave articles out of tonight’s issue because there was too much to cover. Thursday will also be a “busy” issue since we are conducting our mid-February steel survey which we will finish on Thursday. There are a number of companies reporting earnings on Thursday and the AIA Billings Index will be released.
That is one of the reasons why I have always enjoyed the steel business – every day is different and you never know what will happen which will move you in a new direction as the day progresses.
I want to take a few moments to welcome our newest members. We have added a number over the past few days – single member and corporate members. Thank you for joining our group. I want to encourage you to interact with SMU – I (or we) try to answer questions as they arise and we appreciate ideas for articles or pieces of the missing puzzle we may be working on. You can reach us at: Info@SteelMarketUpdate.com or by phone at 800-432-3475 (706-216-5440). The main office is located in Georgia (Eastern Time Zone) but those who know me understand I am a bit of a workaholic and tend to respond at all hours of the day. If you like our product – please tell your friends. The biggest portion of our sales is made with the help of our members. Thank you in advance for your referrals.
And, as always, your business is truly appreciated.

HR Futures: Market finds footing on supply-side mechanics
As Labor Day marks the transition into fall, the steel market enters September with a similar sense of change. Supply-side fundamentals are beginning to show signs of restraint: imports are limited, outages loom, and production is capped, setting the stage for a market that feels steady on the surface but still unsettled underneath.
