    Flat Rolled Pricing Cycle Rises as Spot Price Gains Made During October

    As we entered the month of October, flat rolled prices had been trending sideways for a number of weeks. On October 1st Steel Market Update measured benchmark hot rolled coil with an average of $635 per ton which was actually down slightly from the $640 recorded at the end of September.

    However, the mills had announced new price increases during that first week and prices began to rise as the month progressed. By the end of the month spot hot rolled prices had risen to $665 per ton, up $25 per ton since the beginning of the month.

    Cold rolled, which began the month at $745 per ton rose $20 per ton to $765 per ton.

    Galvanized .060” G90 pricing also rose $20 per ton during the month having begun the month at $810 per ton and ending the month at $830 per ton.

    Galvalume .0142” AZ50 Grade 80 went from $1041 per ton during the first week of October to $1056 by the end of the month (up $15 per ton).
