Chinese Iron Ore, Scrap & Flat Rolled Imports/Exports for July 2016

Chinese steel trade data was recently released for the month of July 2016, providing updated data on iron ore imports, scrap imports, and flat rolled imports and exports. Chinese imports of iron ore in July were 88,400,000 metric tons, an increase of 8.3 percent from the previous month and an increase of 2.7 percent from July 2015. Total iron ore imports for the first seven months of 2016 are at 582,050,000 metric tons.
July Chinese imports of steel scrap were 170,000 metric tons, a decrease of 1.2 percent from June and flat over the same month one year ago. 2016 total levels for steel scrap imports are at 1,160,000 metric tons.
Flat rolled imports to China in July were 960,000 metric tons, a 0.5 percent decrease from the previous month but a 9.1 percent increase over July 2015 figures. Total 2016 YTD imports were adjusted to 6,390,000 metric tons.
Chinese exports of flat rolled steel were 4,350,000 metric tons for July, up 4.9 percent from June and up 16.6 percent from July 2015. Total flat rolled exports for 2016 through July are at an adjusted 27,930,000 metric tons. (Source: Bradford Research, Inc. & China Customs Service)
