Chinese Iron Ore, Scrap & Flat Rolled Imports/Exports for September 2016

Chinese steel trade data was recently released for the month of September 2016, providing updated data on iron ore imports, scrap imports, and flat rolled imports and exports. Chinese imports of iron ore in September were 92,990,000 metric tons, an increase of 6.0 percent from the previous month and an increase of 8.0 percent from September 2015. Total iron ore imports for the first nine months of 2016 are at 762,550,000 metric tons.
September Chinese imports of steel scrap were 180,000 metric tons, a decrease of 5.3 percent from August and down 6.7 percent over the same month one year ago. 2016 total levels for steel scrap imports are at 1,530,000 metric tons.
Flat rolled imports to China in September were 940,000 metric tons, unchanged from the previous month and up 10.7 percent over September 2015 figures. Total 2016 YTD imports were adjusted to 8,270,000 metric tons.
Chinese exports of flat rolled steel were 4,250,000 metric tons for September, down 2.1 percent from August and down 12.1 percent from September 2015. Total flat rolled exports for 2016 through September are at an adjusted 36,510,000 metric tons. (Source: Bradford Research, Inc. & China Customs Service)
