US Steel Shipments Down 5.9% in March: AISI

US steel shipments fell 5.9% in March vs. the same month last year, according to the most recent figures released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) on Tuesday.
Domestic steel mills shipped 7,372,430 net tons in March, off from 7,835,600 net tons shipped a year earlier, but up 6.6% from the 6,917,842 net tons shipped in February.
Year-to-date shipments in 2023 stood at 21,438,542 net tons, falling 6.1% from 2022 shipments of 22,826,084 net tons for the first three months of last year.
Comparing year-to-date shipments this year to the first three months of 2022 yields: corrosion resistant sheet and strip (-5%); hot-rolled sheet (-8%); and cold-rolled sheet (-8%).
