UAW Members Could Strike at Parts Supplier Mobis North America
Written by Ethan Bernard
November 7, 2023
United Auto Workers (UAW) members at auto parts supplier Mobis North America in Toledo, Ohio, have authorized leaders to call a strike when their contract expires next week, according to a UAW post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
There are 400 workers at the plant that supplies completed chassis modules to Jeep’s Toledo Assembly Complex, according to a Nov. 3 article on WTOL. Jeep is owned by Netherlands-based Stellantis.
The UAW Local 12’s contract with Mobis is set to expire at 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 14, the article said. A UAW official declined to speak to WTOL regarding the specifics of contract negotiations or what workers were looking for in a new deal.
Recall that the UAW recently reached tentative labor agreements with the “Big Three” Detroit-area automakers, with General Motors the final one agreed to on Oct. 30. Those separate agreements still need to be ratified by members.
UAW president Shawn Fain has also signaled that this could set the stage for larger union action across the country.
A call for comment from UAW Local 12 and an email to Mobis North America were not returned by time of publication.
Mobis North America is part of Hyundai Mobis, a global auto parts supplier headquartered in South Korea.
