Thyssenkrupp Materials Services is continuing its expansion in North America. It announced the opening of a new steel service center in Sinton, Texas, to primarily serve the automotive, HVAC, and construction markets.
Part of the thyssenkrupp Materials NA unit, the new steel stocking location is the company’s fourth in the US. It is located on Steel Dynamics Inc.’s (SDI) Sinton sheet mill campus.
“The logistically favorable location—including direct rail and port access—in Sinton allows us to bridge the gap to markets that were dependent on distant suppliers,” thyssenkrupp Steel Services COO Steve McGee commented in a statement sent to SMU, noting that ” we are expanding our geographic reach in high-growth markets with a high demand for steel.”
The company operates additional US locations in Richburg, S.C.; Woodstock, Ala.; and Detroit.
Earlier this year, thyssenkrupp Materials de Mexico inaugurated a service center in San Luis Potosi – the unit’s fourth location in Mexico.
“North America is an important growth market for us, which is why we are continuously expanding our position as a strategic partner to the automotive industry,” Martin Stillger, CEO of thyssenkrupp Materials Services, said at a celebration of the Sinton site’s opening.
Essen, Germany-based thyssenkrupp Material Services has invested over $100 million in the past two years to further its expansion in North America, including ~$32 million in Sinton and $37 million in San Luis Potosi. In total, the company operates 380 locations (270 warehouses) in more than 30 countries.
