Big River Steel updates galvanized coating extras
Written by Brett Linton
May 21, 2024
Big River Steel (BRS) made upward revisions to most of its galvanized coating extras this week, with new extras going into effect July 6.
The steelmaker has increased extras by an average of nearly 14%, according to their latest price book. Their coating extras were previously revised late last year, effective Jan. 6.
Zinc prices are the primary driver of coating extra changes. After a 10-month period of relative stability, zinc spot prices began to increase last month and are now up to a 15-month high.
SMU has analyzed the old and new BRS galvanized extras below. Select extras increased as much as 25% on some coating weights.

We will continue to update any other coating extras announced by competing mills as they are made available.
