Nucor lowers weekly HR price by $5/ton

    Written by Laura Miller

Nucor priced its weekly hot-rolled (HR) coil consumer spot price (CSP) at $715 per short ton (st) this week, down $5/st from last week.

The move comes after a $60/st price cut was announced for the week of June 10.

The HR base price is effective immediately for all the company’s sheet mills, save for California Steel Industries (CSI). The HR coil base price for CSI, at $775/st, is also lower by $5/st from last week.

A letter to customers Monday said Nucor will continue to offer lead times of 3-5 weeks for all spot orders but to contact district sales managers for availability.

As of June 11, SMU pegged HR coil spot prices in the US to be $660-760/st with an average of $710/st.

CRU: Global finished steel prices diverge, US the rare bright spot

CRU: Global finished steel prices have diverged in August, with longs softening while sheet and plate firmed in most regions. Weak construction demand persisted across most longs markets, with the US the notable exception. Higher sheet prices were driven by tightening supply in the US and reduced import attractiveness in Europe, even as APAC sheet prices declined. Plate prices were mostly firmer across APAC, stable to down in Europe, and continued climbing in the US.
