Two US plate mills – SSAB Americas and Evraz North America (NA) – have followed Nucor so far in raising plate prices, with the opening of their March order books.
The increases are effective immediately for all new orders, both mills said in letters to customers.
Evraz NA said it was increasing transactions by at least $60 per short ton (st) for all carbon, high-strength low-alloy, and normalized and quenched-and-tempered plate products, as well as for hot-rolled coil (HR) as of Monday, Jan. 27.
Any offers that have not been confirmed, the steelmaker said, it reserves the right to re-quote.
SSAB announced a similar increase: at least $60/st (Canadian $85/st) for as-rolled, normalized, quenched-and-tempered, and wide-cut-to-length plate products.
The increase is on all new orders and non-contract orders confirmed to ship March 3 and beyond, the letter said.
“SSAB Americas reserves the right to re-quote any open offers not confirmed by an SSAB order acknowledgment. All other terms and conditions of sale remain unchanged,” the company said on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
The moves by SSAB Americas and Evraz NA come after Nucor kicked off the latest round of plate price hikes Monday morning.
Plate prices stand at $845/st on average, down $5/st from a week ago, according to SMU’s interactive price tool. Our HR price is at $685/st on average, unchanged from a week earlier.
SMU will next update its plate prices later today. And you can also track mill price announcements here.
Evraz NA is a Chicago-based steelmaker and subsidiary of London-based Evraz Plc.
SSAB Americas is a subsidiary of Swedish steelmaker SSAB. The company operates plate mills in Mobile, Ala., and Montpelier, Iowa.
