Nucor lifts weekly HR spot price to $915/ton

Nucor is raising its list price for hot-rolled (HR) coil by $15 per short ton to $915/st.
The increase marks the seventh week of seeing higher consumer spot prices (CSP) for HR sheet from the Charlotte, N.C.-based steelmaker.
Nucor held its HR price from November to January at $750/st. It began raising the price the last week of January and has upped it by $15-40/st every week since.
A letter to customers on Monday said the company continues to offer lead times of 3-5 weeks for spot orders but to inquire with a sales representative.
The letter also specified this week’s price for HR coil from West Coast subsidiary California Steel Industries (CSI) will be $975/st. That’s also an increase of $15/st from last week.
In our check of the market on Tuesday, March 4, SMU assessed current HR sheet prices to be $850-1,000/st, with an average of $925/st. Our price momentum indicator continues pointing higher, meaning we expect prices to continue rising over the next 30 days.
