Nucor has implemented a double-digit price decrease on spot hot-rolled (HR) coil for the second consecutive week.
The steelmaker informed customers on Monday, Aug. 11, it is lowering its weekly HR coil base consumer spot price (CSP) by $15 per short ton (st) from last week to $875/st. That’s down $35/st from a month ago when the price was $910/st.
At the same time, HR from California Steel Industries, the West Coast subsidiary of the Charlotte, N.C.-based steel giant, will also see a $15/st week-over-week price cut. The move to $935/st comes after a $10/st drop last week. CSI’s list price was also $35/st higher a month ago at $970/st.
Nucor’s letter reminded customers to contact their sales representative for the availability of their offered lead times, which range from three to five weeks.
Last week, SMU assessed HR coil spot prices ranging from $770/st to $890/st. The average of $830/st was down $10/st from the prior week and $40/st from a month earlier.
