Nucor spot HR list price unchanged at $875/ton

Nucor kept its weekly list price for hot-rolled (HR) coil unchanged this week, following a price bump of $10 per short ton (st) last week.
The steelmaker said in a letter to customers on Tuesday that its consumer spot price (CSP) for HR coil would remain at $875/st, after attempting to halt the decline in HR coil prices the week prior.
Nucor also said pricing at its West Coast joint venture, California Steel Industries (CSI), would also remain unchanged from last week at $935/st.

Charlotte, N.C.-based Nucor also said it would continue to offer HR lead times of 3-5 weeks.
On Aug. 26, SMU assessed spot HR coil prices at $750-860/st, averaging $805/st. We also pegged HRC lead times to be between three and six weeks, with an average of 4.4 weeks.
Watch for updated steel prices today, Tuesday, Sept. 2. Our next mill lead times assessment will be Sept. 4.

Spread between US HRC and imports holds
Domestic hot-rolled (HR) coil prices were flat this week, while offshore prices varied week over week (w/w). The price margin between stateside and foreign product was little changed as a result.

SMU Survey: Mills remain flexible on pricing, buyers say
The majority of steel buyers responding to our market survey this week continue to say that mills are negotiable on new spot order prices. Negotiation rates have remained high since May.
