SMU Price Ranges: Cold rolled and coated move higher, hot rolled and plate flat

    Written by Brett Linton

Three of SMU’s price indices increased this week, while two remained steady, all holding at multi-month highs.

Sheet prices have all increased $25-30 per short ton (st) in the last month, having gradually risen since September. Plate is up $5/st from month-ago levels. Other than a moderate bump in early January, it has held relatively steady since November.

Our hot-rolled coil index held steady this week at a two-year high of $975/st. Cold rolled edged up $5/st to $1,130/st, levels last seen in April 2025.

Each of our coated prices increased to 10-month highs; galvanized rose $15/st week over week (w/w) to $1,095/st, and Galvalume increased $10/st to $1,125/st.

Plate remained unchanged for the second week in a row a $1,055/st, a six-month high.

SMU’s price momentum indicator continues to point to higher for both sheet and plate products, signaling that we expect prices to increase further in the short term.
