SMU Price Estimator Tool updated and now easier to use

    Written by Brett Linton

We are happy to share that the SMU Price Estimator Tool is now a little easier to navigate.

This tool estimates the current spot market price for specific hot rolled, cold rolled, galvanized, Galvalume, and plate products. Members can specify exact width, thickness, chemistry grade, surface treatment, coating weight when applicable, and more. We update the tool every Tuesday evening with our latest price indices and keep it current with the latest available U.S. Steel price extras.

One of the latest usability improvements is simple but helpful. The base chemistry grades, surface treatments, and finishes now appear as the default selections where applicable. Meaning users no longer have to click through multiple menus just to get to the standard spec.

SMU members can find the tool here. Here is an example calculation for an 0.060″x48″ G90 galvanized coil:

As part of our ongoing maintenance, on Monday we updated the extras behind our Price Estimator Tool to reflect the latest U.S. Steel galvanized and Galvalume coating extras announced last week. For users wanting to go a step further and view extras by other mills, SMU also maintains copies of mill price books and coating extra sheets here on our website.
