Tyasa starts up new SBQ mill in Mexico
Written by Laura Miller
Talleres y Aceros SA (Tyasa) has started up its new 350,000-metric-ton-per-year SBQ facility in Ixtaczoquitlán, Veracruz, Mexico.
Mill equipment manufacturer Danieli supplied the complex and announced the mill’s successful start-up.
The companies have successfully commissioned a hot-rolling mill, straightening and peeling lines, and a water treatment plant. Cold commissioning began in April, and the plant rolled its first hot billet on May 25. The mill processed its first bar on July 6, a milestone that led to the signing of the provisional acceptance certificate on Aug. 4.
Danieli said a new drawing line and a heat-treatment line are in the final stages of erection.
“With start-up completed, the project has entered the performance-testing phase, during which production capacity, energy efficiency, operational continuity and metallurgical quality will be validated over increasing production volumes,” Danieli noted.
Tyasa is a family-owned company producing flat and coated steels, special steels, and long steels for the construction industry. It has an annual production capacity of 1.6 million tons, according to its website, with locations in Ixtaczoquitlán, Veracruz; Silao, Guanajuato; Mérida, Yucatán; and Arriaga, Chiapas.
