SSAB to increase plate prices by $40/ton, again

SSAB Americas plans to increase plate prices by at least $40 per short ton (st), according to a letter sent to customers on Monday.
The steelmaker said the increase would apply to all new spot orders confirmed to ship on or after Oct. 4.
“Published extras, regional freight premiums, and non-preferred freight mode extras will be applied,” the company said in the letter.

SMU’s price assessment for plate currently stands at $1,395/st on average, as of Tuesday, Aug. 18. Plate prices increased $15/st vs. the prior week and are up $45/st over the past four weeks.
SSAB Americas, the US subsidiary of Swedish steelmaker SSAB, operates two plate mills in the US: one near Mobile, Ala., the other in Montpelier, Iowa.
The steelmaker last announced a $40/st increase back in early July.
