Severstal NA Sales Jump 6% in Q2

Severstal reported a spike in sales at its North America facilities in second quarter 2014. Severstal NA sold 1,248,084 tonnes (1.38 million net tons) of rolled products, up 6 percent from the previous quarter. Sales for the first half were up 7 percent to 2,430,839 tonnes (2.68 million net tons). The average price of rolled products fell 1 percent to $827 per tonne sequentially, but averaged 4 percent higher at $831 per tonne over the first half of 2014 ($750 per net ton and $754 per net ton, respectively)
Within rolled product sales, hot rolled coil and plate increased 9 percent sequentially to 696,663 tonnes, (767,926 net tons) cold rolled coil down 7 percent to 135,180 tonnes (149,007 net tons), and galvanized and metallic coated coil sales rose 4 percent to 416,241 tonnes (458,819 net tons).
Severstal NA metal production rose 4 percent from Q1 to 469,501 tonnes (517,527 net tons). Production for the first half was 920,507 tonnes (1.01 milllion net tonnes), down 8 percent from the first half of 2013. High value added steel products accounted for 44 percent of production.
Second quarter crude steel production rose to 1,313,836 tonnes (1,448,231 net tons), up 8 percent from first quarter. First half production was 3 percent higher year-over-year at 2,532,740 tonnes (2,791,820 net tons).

Nucor holds weekly HRC price steady after last week’s cut
Nucor chose to hold its consumer spot price (CSP) for hot-rolled (HR) coil steady this week after stunning the market last week with a significant price decline. The steelmaker said in a letter to customers on Monday morning that its $760-per-short-ton (st) CSP base price for HR coil is effective immediately. The price is unchanged from the CSP announced on May 6 but down $65/st from $825/st April 29.
