    Written by David Schollaert

SPS Companies has acquired Jemison Metals, a carbon flat-roll service center and fabricator headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., from Jemison Investment Company.

The move expands the company’s reach with the addition of seven facilities across the South, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest.

“We are excited to continue to build upon the outstanding culture of quality, service and innovation that Jemison has built over the years,” Matt Crocker, SPS CEO, said in a statement.

Craig Mathiason, president of Jemison Metals, and current senior management will retain their positions and responsibilities, the statement said.

Jemison will become a subsidiary of SPS.

“Our customers will see a seamless transition with their same sales contacts and the same commitment to quality products and services they have grown to trust with Jemison Metals,” said Mathiason.

SPS has steel distribution and fabrication operations in 11 US states and Monterrey, Mexico.
