California Steel Industries has opened its January order book with a considerable bump in prices. CSI notified customers on Monday that it has increased transaction prices on its flat rolled products by $90-100 per ton.
Effective immediately, unconfirmed orders for hot rolled, P&O and galvanized increase by $90 per ton, while cold rolled prices increase by $100. Pricing is subject to slab availability and mill capacity.
“We express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support as we all manage our business through the significant swings in economic conditions related to the COVID-19 pandemic,” the company said.
This latest price announcement follows on a $50-60 increase by CSI on Aug. 26 and a $60-70 increase on Sept. 21.
Steel Market Update’s check of the market this week puts the benchmark average for hot rolled steel at $700 per ton. SMU’s Price Momentum Indicator continues to point toward higher flat rolled prices.
