Obituary: Former Doral Steel President Cam Smith

Robert Campbell “Cam” Smith, Jr., former president of Doral Steel, died on Friday, Dec. 24 at age 84.
Smith founded Doral Steel in Toledo, Ohio, in 1975. The service center also had operations in Clinton, Tenn., and Monterrey, Mexico. The family business was sold to Samuel, Son & Co. in 2011.
Among many honors in his long career, Smith was named the Steel Man of the Year by the Association of Steel Distributors (ASD) in 2007.
“Cam was and always will be one of the great gentlemen in the steel Industry. His success and accolades are a product of his high ethical standards, integrity, and strong values exhibited throughout his career. Cam was truly a class act and will be missed by many,” said Grand Steel President Mike Barnett, current chairman of ASD’s board.
