Steel pipe producer Tenaris has joined the Steel Manufacturers Association, the US industry trade association representing electric arc furnace producers.
Additionally, Luca Zanotti, president of Tenaris’ US operations, is joining the SMA’s board of directors.
“Our company is committed to supporting low emissions steelmaking with an agenda rooted in sound public policy, a strong safety culture, and environmental stewardship. This will benefit Tenaris and the steel industry,” Zanotti commented on Tenaris’ joining, noting that his company is committed to domestic manufacturing. Since 2006, Tenaris has invested more than $11 billion, and Zanotti says it will “continue to innovate, invest and contribute to the sustainable development of” American communities.
Tenaris’ US operations include a 430,000-tons-per-year EAF at its seamless pipe mill in Koppel, Pa., a 600,000-tons-per-year seamless mill in Bay City, Texas, as well as ERW tube mills in Camanche, Iowa; Hickman, Ark.; Wilder, Ky.; and Houston, Texas. Earlier this month, Tenaris announced it will be purchasing Benteler Steel & Tube’s seamless pipe production facility in Shreveport, La.
SMA president Phillip Bell welcomed Tenaris to the organization, noting the importance of the coming together of the American EAF steel industry “to address common challenges and to pursue common goals.” The SMA is based in Washington, D.C.
Tenaris SA is a global pipe and tube manufacturer headquartered in Luxembourg. It achieved global sales of $6.5 billion in 2021.
