GrafTech Mexico SA de CV has temporarily suspended manufacturing of graphite electrodes at its facility in Monterrey, Nuevo León, after an inspection revealed its operating license is no longer in effect.
Discovery of the invalid operating license was made during an inspection by the State Attorney’s Office for the Secretary of Environment of the State of Nuevo León.
Parent company GrafTech International Ltd. said in a US Securities and Exchange Commission filing that it is currently unable to assess how long operations at the facility will be suspended.
“While the company strongly disagrees with this course of action, the company is actively evaluating the notice and the allegations contained therein and the company intends to work with the authorities to address these allegations and will vigorously defend against these allegations,” GrafTech stated in the filing.
GrafTech International is an important supplier to electric arc furnace (EAF) producers, manufacturing graphite electrodes and needle coke. It is headquartered in Brooklyn Heights, Ohio.
