US mill shipments slow in February: AISI

Steel shipments from US mills were lower in February, both from January and from last year.
The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that US mills shipped 7,097,512 short tons (st) of steel products in February. Shipments declined 3.9% from the previous month and 2.8% from February 2023.
AISI data showed year-to-date (YTD) mill shipments of 14,481,966 st, off 2.5% from last year.
However, AISI noted YTD sheet shipments were up 5% for cold rolled, 1% for hot rolled, and 1% for corrosion-resistant material.
