Nucor’s $875/ton HR spot price spills into week six

Nucor is keeping hot-rolled (HR) coil prices unchanged again this week, according to its latest consumer spot price (CSP) notice issued on Monday, Sept. 29.
The Charlotte, N.C.-based steelmaker has not adjusted its HR spot price since it increased prices by $10 per short ton (st) to $875/st on Aug. 25.
Nucor also said HR pricing at its West Coast joint venture, California Steel Industries (CSI), would remain unchanged from last week at $935/st.
The steelmaker said it would continue to offer lead times of 3-5 weeks for HR.

SMU’s HR price stood at an average of $785/st as of Tuesday, Sept. 23, flat vs. the prior week. The next SMU HR price update will be on Tuesday evening.
SMU pegged current HRC lead times between three and six weeks, with an average of 4.5 weeks. We’ll update lead times again on Thursday, Oct. 2.

HRC-galvanized price gap edges higher
After marginally rising in August and September, the premium galvanized coil carries over hot-rolled coil (HRC) coil has narrowed again in recent weeks. As of Sept. 16, the spread between these two products has shrunk to a two-and-a-half-year low of $125 per short ton (st).
