    OSM jump-starts the cycle

Oregon Steel Mills kicked off the latest price increase cycle by attempting to push spot plate prices up by a minimum of $60 per short ton (st).

The Portland, Ore.-based company told customers on Thursday that the minimum increase was effective immediately with all new orders.

It applies to all carbon, HSLA, hot-rolled coil, normalized, and quenched and tempered products, the company said.

OSM has attempted to increase plate prices by roughly $240/st since September.

    SSAB Americas joins in

SSAB Americas notified customers that it was also aiming to increase all plate product prices by $60/st.

In its March 6 notice, the steelmaker said the increase was effective for all new, non-contract orders confirmed to ship from May 3 onward.

SSAB Americas has attempted to increase plate prices by $250/st over the past six months.

In the same letter, the steelmaker said it would continue to apply published extras, regional freight premiums, and non-preferred freight mode extras.
