Algerian long products face new US import duties

Long products from Algeria are facing the wrath of the US legal system.

In a final injury ruling last month, the US International Trade Commission determined rebar imports from the North African nation are harming the US industry.
The ruling cleared the way for the Commerce Department to officially issue an AD order on April 29.
Imports of Algerian rebar are now subject to anti-dumping duties of 127.32%. That rate applies to Tosyali Iron Steel Industry Algeria SPA and all other producers and exporters.
In 2025, the US imported 83,124 metric tons (mt) of rebar from Algeria. The only other Algerian steel product imported into the US last year was 29,805 mt of wire rod. There have been no imports of either product from the country since last summer, according to US government data.

Algerian wire rod is also under fire.
On May 1, Commerce’s International Trade Administration initiated a subsidy investigation into the imports.
The move came after a coalition of US wire rod producers filed a petition seeking countervailing duties on wire rod from Algeria last month.
The coalition includes Nucor, Commercial Metals Co., Charter Steel, Liberty Steel, and Optimus Steel.
