The Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) has announced that the United States and Mexico will be having a series of bilateral negotiating rounds related to the joint review of the US Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA).

USTR said in a statement Monday that on May 28-29, Deputy USTR Ambassador Jeff Goettman will lead a US delegation to Mexico City for the first bilateral negotiating round. It will feature negotiations on economic security and rules of origin for key industrial goods.

Additionally, on June 16-17, the two countries will hold a second round in Washington, D.C. This will also include discussions on agriculture and a level playing field.

Finally, during the week of July 20, the United States and Mexico will hold a third negotiating round in Mexico City.

USTR said the negotiations will focus on making sure the USMCA benefits US manufacturers, farmers, ranchers, workers, service suppliers, and businesses of all sizes.

The official start date of the USMCA join review is July 1. Generally, steel and aluminum imports from Canada and Mexico into the US are currently subject to a 50% Section 232 tariff.
