Tampa Steel Conference Attendance Rising. Don't Miss Out!

It’s time to register for the Tampa Steel Conference 2024, easily one of the premier North American steel events. It’s a can’t-miss steel industry conference, especially following the record-breaking attendance at SMU’s Steel Summit 2023 this past August.
Make your travel plans for 2024 and secure your spot.
The event will be at the JW Marriott Tampa Water Street hotel, so mark your calendar for Sunday-Tuesday, Jan. 28-30. We expect to exceed last year’s mark with more than 500 attendees.
Keep in mind that this is the high season for tourism in Florida, not to mention on the heels of Gasparilla – Tampa’s annual Pirate Festival. Make sure to book your hotels early because rooms are going fast. You can learn more about the agenda, explore networking opportunities, and register here.
There will be an outdoor networking reception on Sunday evening as well as a golf tournament and a harbor tour of Port Tampa Bay on Monday morning. The conference program begins Monday afternoon.
SMU has intentionally made this event a North American one, with executives attending from around the continent, sharing their inside perspectives on what’s happening in steel.
Speaking of attendees, here is a list of some of the companies that have registered so far. Those with an asterisk next to their name are sending more than one person to the event:
A.R. Savage & Son, LLC*, Al Ghurair Iron & Steel LLC, Alliance Steel LLC*, American Heavy Plates, ArcelorMittal Dofasco*, BMO Bank NA, BofA Global Research, BofA Securities, Celtic Marine and Logistics, Century Metals & Supplies, Inc., Cleveland Steel Container*, CRU*, Dass Steels*, Delaware River Stevedores, Inc., Diehl Tool Steel, Elgen Manufacturing, Friedman Industries, Gibraltar Industries, Inc.*, Great Circle Shipping Corporation, Greenway Steel, Heritage Capital Group, Huntington Bank, Hybar LLC, Illinois Tool Works (ITW)*, Jemison Metals, JIT Warehousing & Logistics, JSW Steel USA Inc., Kloeckner Metals*, LB Steel, Marubeni-Itochu Steel America Inc.*, Misetal Trading Solutions*, Ohio Steel Sheet & Plate, Pacific Metals Trading, Inc., Pier 48 Stevedoring, Primetals Technologies, QSL America, North America Stevedoring, Ram Steel Framing, Red Bud Industries*, Reynolds Services, Inc.*, Rock Trading Advisors, Ltd, Ryerson Singer Steel, Second City Metals, SSAB Americas*, State Plate LLC*, Steel Dynamics Inc, Steel Warehouse, SteelOrbis, SteelSummit-Tennessee, Summit Global Trading*, The Bradbury Group*, The Law Office of Lewis E. Final thoughts
What a difference a month makes. In late March, it seemed like the US hot-rolled (HR) coil market was poised to cycle upward. Large buyers had re-entered the market and placed big orders earlier in the month. Several outages were underway or upcoming. And expectations were that lead times would continue to extend. Cliffs said […]

SMU survey: Buyers’ Sentiment finishes April on the upswing
SMU’s Steel Buyers’ Sentiment Indices both rose this week to reach some of the highest levels seen this year.
Price: Why have steel emissions policies forgotten about recycling?
Steelmaking currently accounts for approximately 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The only way to achieve net zero goals is to significantly reduce steel emissions worldwide. And there is no way to do that without recycling.
SMU survey: HR, plate lead times slip as CR extends
Hot-rolled coil and plate lead times contracted this week, with most other products remaining flat, according to SMU's most recent survey data. Cold-rolled products, however, saw lead times extend 0.1 weeks to an average of 7.5 weeks vs. two weeks earlier. Hot rolled and plate lead times both contracted 0.3 weeks from our last market check.
