Nucor adjusts coating extras
Written by Brett Linton
November 26, 2024
Nucor has revised its galvanized and galvannealed coating extras effective Jan. 4, 2025.
The Charlotte, N.C.-based steelmaker published updated extras on Monday of this week, moving from “Schedule E” to “Schedule D” extras.
“Consistent with our practice to monitor the cost of zinc, we have revised our galvanized coating weight extras effective with orders acknowledged for the week ending January 4, 2025,” Nucor said in a letter to customers.
SMU has created a comparison of the old and new galvanized coating extras (Table 1). Extras were lowered for roughly half of the selected products. Most of the remaining prices were unchanged from the mid-2024 revision, while extras were raised for a few specs. A history of Nucor galvanized coating extras is available here on our website.

Nucor’s latest price extras can be found here on their website under the sheet tab.
Zinc is used in galvanized and other coated steel products and is the primary driver of coating extra price changes. Earlier this week, we published our Raw Materials Price update for Premium members, highlighting that zinc prices recently touched a 19-month high. Additionally, we recently featured a zinc market analysis from CRU sharing impacts on the North American market.
