Air Liquide to spend more than $350M to support Hyundai-POSCO Louisiana mill
Written by Ethan Bernard
France’s Air Liquide is investing more than $350 million to expand industrial gas production and infrastructure in support of the proposed Hyundai-POSCO EAF mill in Louisiana.
The Paris-based multinational that supplies industrial gases and related services is adding a new Air Separation Unit in St. James Parish, La., at the existing Koch Methanol facility, according to a press release from Louisiana Economic Development.
It’s also expanding pipeline infrastructure along the Mississippi River.
The upgrades will supply the oxygen, nitrogen, and argon needed for steel production at the Hyundai-POSCO mill. Additionally, it will increase capacity and efficiency at the current Koch Methanol facility.
Recall that in December 2025, South Korea’s POSCO confirmed a 20% stake in the proposed EAF mill with fellow South Korean company Hyundai. The company announced the project in March of last year.
“By leveraging our extensive Mississippi River infrastructure and high-efficiency technologies, we are delivering solutions that ensure both superior reliability and the flexibility required for Hyundai-POSCO Louisiana’s pioneering green steel production,” Air Liquide Group Executive Committee Member Matthieu Giard said in the release.
The proposed Hyundai-POSCO facility, with an estimated investment of $5.82 billion, will produce 650,000 metric tons (mt) of hot-rolled coil and 2.05 million mt of cold-rolled coil annually. Operations are slated to begin in 2029.
