SMU Price Ranges: Market continues to climb higher
Written by Brett Linton
All five of SMU’s sheet and plate price indices increased yet again this week. Sheet products ticked up $10 per short ton (st) from last week, while plate jumped $25/st week over week (w/w), all rising to new multi-year highs.
Hot-rolled coil is now up to $1,070 per st, the highest it has been since May 2023.
Cold rolled and coated prices remain at highs last seen in February 2024. Our cold rolled index increased to $1,220/st, galvanized to $1,200/st, and Galvalume to $1,210/st.
Our plate index rose to $1,215/st this week, surpassing the one-year high set last week and now the highest price recorded since April 2024.
SMU’s price momentum indicator remains at higher for both sheet and plate products, signaling that we expect prices to increase further in the short term.
