Ferrosource facility at Big River Steel to start up in August

Ferrosource LLC, a distributor of ferrous metals, is nearing completion of its steel processing facility on the campus of Big River Steel Works (BRSW). Operations are set to begin in August.

The project is expected to cost more than $70 million and is seen supporting more than 40 direct full-time jobs at steady-state operation and more than 100 total jobs in Arkansas.

The Jacksonville, Fla.-based company said in a statement the expansion “creates a high-efficiency supply solution that effectively eliminates inbound freight costs, slashes transit times, and significantly reduces material handling for manufacturers and distributors across the central United States.”

The Ferrosource Metal Processing facility, located on U.S. Steel’s BRSW campus in Osceola, Ark., will use a “zero-inbound freight processing model.” This enables customers to source mill-produced steel and value-added processing in one integrated location.

Using this process, “customers can reduce total delivered cost, simplify logistics, and improve speed to market.”

The products it can service include galvanized, Galvalume, galvannealed, pre-painted, and cold-rolled steel.

End-use markets served are construction, agriculture, HVAC, appliance, metal building, and other downstream markets, Ferrosource said.

“We have seen tremendous market interest in this model — zero inbound freight, on-campus processing, and multi-modal outbound logistics at one of the most advanced steel mills in the world,” said Kevin Udolph, Ferrosource’s vice president, commercial and business development.
