US cold-rolled group responds to Mexico trade case

The Association of Cold Rolled Specialty Steel (ACRSS) has officially responded to the formal investigation Mexico opened into cold-rolled steel imports from the US.

ACRSS, which represents companies that manufacture and process a broad range of cold-rolled products, said they were aware of the recently initiated investigation concerning US imports of cold-rolled steel products into Mexico.

The group argues that such products have “precise manufacturing processes, dimensional tolerances, metallurgical characteristics, and end-use applications,” all of which are not produced in Mexico.

“Engineered cold-rolled strip products are typically designed for specialized applications requiring precise mechanical properties, controlled surface conditions, and tight dimensional tolerances,” the group said. “Mexican producers are not capable of producing cold-rolled strip products that meet the requirements needed for the Mexican market.”

ACRSS said it supports fair and transparent trade practices and respects the investigative process.

“We believe it is important that the characteristics of cold-rolled strip and the capabilities of Mexican producers are fully understood and appropriately considered in any evaluation,” ACRSS said.

The group stated it will continue to support its member companies as they “engage constructively and individually in the applicable legal processes.”

As previously reported, Mexico opened an anti-dumping investigation into cold-rolled steel imports from the US, China, and Malaysia back in February.
