Convert Actual Weight Price To All Billing Methods

Actual weight represents the physical weight as measured by a properly calibrated and certified scale.  To convert from actual weight to other billing methods apply the following formulas:

Actual Weight to TMW

When converting actual weight pricing to TMW pricing, take the TMW average decimal (determined by measuring thickness of physical steel) and divide by TMW decimal, then multiply by the actual weight price, and that will give you the theoretical minimal weight price.

In short:

  • TMW (Theoretical Minimum Weight) Average Decimal ÷ TMW Decimal X Actual Weight Price = TMW Price.

Actual Weight to TNW

When converting actual weight pricing to theoretical nominal weight pricing, simply take the average physical decimal (use a micrometer) and divide by the TNW decimal.  Then multiply by .9756.  .9756 is the difference between 40.8 lbs/per square foot (actual weight) and 41.82 lbs/per square foot (nominal weight). Next, multiply by the actual weight price and that will give you the theoretical nominal weight price

In short:

  •  Average Decimal ÷ TNW Decimal X .9756 X Actual Weight Price = TNW Price.

Actual Weight to Linear Foot

When converting actual weight pricing to linear foot pricing, simply take the average physical decimal and multiply that by 40.8 (lbs per sq. ft. steel by 1 in.).  Next multiply by your per pound price and then multiple again by the linear feet in the coil.  This will give you the price per linear foot.

In short:

  • LF: (linear foot) Average Decimal X 40.8 X Per Pound Price X Linear feet in Coil = Price per Linear foot.

Actual Weight to Square Feet:

To convert actual weight pricing to square foot pricing, take the actual weight price per pound and multiply by 40.8 ((lbs per sq. ft. of steel by 1 in.).  Next multiply by the average physical decimal.  This will give you the price per square foot.

In short:

  • Square Foot: Actual Weight Price per Pound X 40.8 X Average Decimal = Price Per Square Foot.

Actual Weight to Price Per Sheet:

This is very similar to the above calculation.  When converting actual weight pricing to a price per sheet, take the actual weight price (per pound) and multiple and 40.8.  Then multiply that figure by the average physical decimal and then times the square footage of the sheet.  This gives you the price per sheet.

In short:

  • Price Per Sheet: (PPS) Actual Weight Price per Pound X 40.8 X Average Decimal X Square Footage of Sheet = Price per Sheet.
