March Domestic Mill Steel Exports Down 13.5% YOY

March steel exports totaled 775,270 net tons (703,314 metric tons), down 0.5 percent over February and down 13.5 percent from March 2015. Total March figures are below both the thee month moving average (3MMA, average of January 2016 through March 2016 figures) and the twelve month moving average (12MMA, average of April 2015 through March 2016 data). Here is a breakdown of flat rolled and plate exports:
Cut plate exports increased 11.3 percent from February to March to 104,207 tons, but were down 9.0 percent compared to levels one year prior.
Exports of coiled plate were 30,483 tons in March, down 6.7 percent month over month but up 3.8 percent year over year.
Hot rolled steel exports decreased 17.9 percent month over month to 53,664 tons, but were up 1.6 percent from March 2015 levels.
Exports of cold rolled products were 57,247 tons in March, down 8.4 from February and down 3.9 over the same month last year.
Galvanized exports rose 8.1 percent month over month to 117,471 tons. Compared to one year ago, March levels were up 8.7 percent.
Exports of all other metallic coated products came in at 21,673 tons, a 24.8 percent increase from last month but a 8.9 percent decrease compared to one year ago.

Nucor cuts HR price for fourth straight week
Nucor lowered its consumer spot price (CSP) for hot-rolled (HR) coil by another $10 per short ton (st) for the first week of July. The steelmaker said in a letter to customers on Monday that its CSP base price for the week will be $670/st for all of its sheet mills with the exception of California Steel Industries (CSI).
