December Heating and Cooling Equipment Shipments

December heating and cooling equipment shipments came in at 1.61 million units, up 0.6 percent from the same month one year ago, according to recent data from the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI). This is the second consecutive month that total shipments have increased on a year-over-year basis.
Residential and commercial storage water heater shipments rose 0.7 percent year over year to a combined 808,023 units; 788,606 units were shipped for residential use and 19,417 units for commercial use.
Shipments of warm air furnaces totaled 292,622 units in December, down 4.2 percent compared to the same month last year. This is the sixth consecutive month warm air furnace shipments have decreased on a year-over-year basis.
Central air conditioners and air-source heat pump shipments rose 3.4 percent over a year ago to 508,788 total units; 303,688 air conditioners and 205,100 heat pumps were shipped. This is the sixth consecutive month air conditioners and air-source heat pump shipments have increased on a year-over-year basis.
