EXLTUBE has raised prices for all A53B products by $125 per ton ($6.25 per cwt) effective immediately.
“This increase is due to escalating substrate costs, transportation costs and demand,” the North Kansas City, Mo.-based pipe and tube producer said in a letter to customers Wednesday, Aug. 18.
Orders on the books prior to the increase announcement will be price protected until Aug. 31, the company said.
The August price hike marks at least the third consecutive month of triple-digit price increases announced by North American pipe and tube producers.
Case in point: EXLTUBE in mid-July raised prices by $150 per ton after lifting tags by $160 per ton in mid-June .
Steel Market Update does not formally track pipe and tube prices. But SMU does carry prices for hot rolled coil (HRC), the substrate used to make welded tubular products.
Spot HRC prices now stand at $1,915 per ton ($95.75 per cwt), up $95 per ton from $1,820 per ton in mid-July and up $195 per ton from $1,720 per ton in mid-June, according to SMU’s interactive price tool.
