Nucor plans to shut down its manufacturing plant in Eufaula, Ala., and to lay off 79 workers.
The plant will begin closing down April 21, according to a WARN notice filed with the state.
Operations will be redirected to a Nucor Buildings Group facility in Texas, a spokeswoman for the Charlotte, N.C.-based steelmaker said.
“The changes are a strategic business decision aimed at realigning our workforce with current market demands.” she in an email. “We are working with our teammates to find opportunities at other Nucor divisions in the state.”
The Alabama facility is operated by a subsidiary of the Charlotte, N.C.-based steelmaker called American Buildings.
Founded in 1947, American Buildings manufactures custom-engineered steel buildings. It also operates facilities in Georgia, South Carolina, Illinois, Texas, Utah and California.
