Leeco Steel Enters Florida Market

February 6, 2014
Leeco Steel, a supplier of carbon, HSLA, heat-treated and alloy steel plate, will open its first Florida sales and distribution center in Tampa. This will be the eleventh location for the Illinois-based company.
The 98,000 square foot facility will have drive-through bays and rail service and is scheduled to be operational by April. Processing equipment for the Tampa location has not yet been finalized.
“The expenses surrounding moving plate steel are always part of the transaction, so we added Tampa because it made geographic sense to be closer to our customers,” said Leeco Steel marketing manager Ellen Shafer. “Tampa, and the entire region, offers both a broad and deep base of businesses that need plate steel and we are excited to provide our supply and service options to all of them.” Markets for the Tampa facility include ship/marine, energy, and fabrication among others.
“Our 2014 strategic plan targets specific geographic markets that align with our industry focus and growth projections,” says Denton J. Nordhues, President and CEO of Leeco Steel. “The Tampa distribution center will complement our other locations in the southeast and will expand our coverage in the gulf region.”
Southeast locations for the company also include Mobile and Chattanooga. Last month Leeco Steel announced the purchase of a distribution facility in Houston, its second in Texas, which is expected to be fully operational this month.
