Comparison Price Indices: More Increases & Prices Still Rising

Flat rolled steel prices continued to increase this past week with both Steel Market Update and Platts reporting steady to upward movements for all products.
The average hot rolled price between SMU and Platts is $560 per ton (up $10 over last week), and the average cold rolled price is $775 per ton (up $18 over last week).
Platts increased prices by double digits again this past week, with hot rolled up $15 to $570, cold rolled up $20 to $790, and plate up $40 to $550.
Steel Market Update’s average hot rolled price increased $5 week over week to $550 per ton, while the cold rolled average price rose $15 to $760 per ton.
Our benchmark .060″ G90 galvanized average price was unchanged at $834 per ton ($41.70/cwt).
Galvalume prices increased by $10 per ton with .0142″ AZ50 Grade 80 now at a $1066 per ton average ($53.30/cwt).
SteelBenchmarker did not report prices this past week.
FOB points for each index:
SMU: Domestic Mill, East of the Rockies.
SteelBenchmarker: Domestic Mill, East of the Mississippi.
Platts: Northern Indiana Domestic Mill.
