Written by John Packard
July 30, 2018
Registrations continue for the 2018 SMU Steel Summit Conference. We have broken through 800 and are nearing 825 registered steel and manufacturing executives as of Tuesday, July 31, 2018. To put that into perspective, we had 534 people registered as of July 31, 2017, and we ended up with 650 total attendees, which was a new record for a SMU Steel Summit Conference. It looks like we will be close to 850 executives this year. This will make our conference the premier event in North America for those associated with the flat rolled and plate steel industries.
A reminder, we still have rooms available at the Atlanta Airport Marriott Hotel, and you can make reservations by calling 888-239-1203 and requesting the Steel Market Update room block. You can also book through the hotel website where they have a special link for our attendees, which you can access here. The room rate is $151 per night and that includes a free shuttle bus that will run from this hotel to the convention center just prior to and during the conference. If you have any questions regarding hotels, please contact Jill Waldman at: Jill@SteelMarketUpdate.com
We released our SMU Events App yesterday (Monday) and details on how to download and use the App were sent to the email we have with your registration. If you have changed your email address, or if you have any issues regarding the App, please contact Brett Linton at Brett@SteelMarketUpdate.com. We will be using the App prior to, during and after the conference, and you will want to download and interact with the App prior to coming to Atlanta.
Please note: We are inside the 30-day window. This means that we will no longer refund monies for cancellations. You may replace someone who cannot make it with someone else from your company. To do that, please send an email to Diana@SteelMarketUpdate.com or call 772-932-7538.
Here is a listing of the companies registered as of 8 a.m. this morning. Note, those companies with an * after their name means more than one person is attending. If your company is missing, or if you have questions about your registration, please contact Brett@SteelMarketUpdate.com. You can still register on our website: www.SteelMarketUpdate.com/Events/Steel-Summit. We are looking forward to seeing you in Atlanta on Aug. 27-29 (arrive early, but don’t leave early as the schedule is packed with exceptional speakers from beginning to end).

Final Thoughts
For those who don’t know, we have a monthly scrap survey. It’s very similar to our industry-leading flat-rolled steel survey. We cover market trends, pricing, and sentiment – which helps us keep our finger on the pulse of the scrap market. One thing we’ve learned lately from our surveys here at SMU: The lack of […]

US, offshore CRC prices continue to fall
US cold-rolled (CR) coil prices moved lower again this week, slipping five weeks in a row now. Most offshore markets mirrored the move, ticking down as well.
