U.S. Steel Adjusts Galvanized Coating Extras
Written by Brett Linton
September 3, 2020
On Wednesday, U.S. Steel notified customers of a revision to its galvanized and galvannealed steel coating extras. USS advised customers, “The cost to procure zinc for our Hot Dipped Galvanized products has increased significantly in recent weeks, with the average LME zinc price now above the current coating weight tables that we put in place earlier in the quarter. Consistent with past practice, we will be increasing our coating weight tables for Hot Dipped Galvanized and Galvannealed spot orders effective with shipments beginning Oct. 1, 2020, reverting to the tables that were in place before the August adjustment.”
USS is the fourth mill to revise its galvanized coating extras recently, following Steel Dynamics, California Steel Industries and Nucor.
SMU has done an analysis on the old and new extras, provided below. USS extras increased an average of 18 percent.
