Domestic Steel Shipments Slip in September: AISI

September shipments from American steel mills decreased vs. shipments in August, according to the latest monthly data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Domestic steel mills shipped 7,252,942 net tons in September, down 5.4% from the 7,663,767 tons shipped the previous month. However, September shipments increased 1.6% from the 7,140,355 tons shipped during September 2022.
Year-to-date (YTD) shipments through September totaled 66,783,001 tons, down 2.5% compared to 68,464,921 tons shipped during the same period one year ago.
Comparing YTD shipments in 2023 to the first nine months of 2022 shows the following changes: hot rolled sheet, up 7 %; corrosion-resistant sheet, down 2%; and cold-rolled sheet remains unchanged.

Final Thoughts
