We had an excellent group at our workshop in Columbus, Mississippi and I want to thank the entire management, customer service, sales and operations staff at the Severstal Columbus facility that put on an exceptional tour of their mill for our group. I also want to thank Severstal NA in Dearborn for working with Steel Market Update as we strive to help improve the understanding of the steelmaking process and the industry in general.
I hope everyone enjoys Peter Wright’s analysis in the SMU Key Market indicators article. SMU will be expanding this section and adding new data tailored specifically to the flat rolled steel industry. SMU are considering this to be part of what will ultimately become part of our “premium” package. I will discuss what that means in more detail as we get closer to our website debut.
Again, a reminder our Managing Price Risk workshop (NY, NY) is available and on our website: www.SteelMarketUpdate.com
As always your business is truly appreciated.

In response, a flurry of new mills and capacity expansions were announced to meet the rise in demand from growth in the construction […]

Steel buyer spirits tempered by soft spot market conditions
Steel sheet buyers report feeling bogged down by the ongoing stresses of stagnant demand, news fatigue, tariff negotiations or implementation timelines, and persistent macroeconomic uncertainty.

CRU: US stainless prices to rise on expanded S232 tariffs
Stainless prices in the US market will rise, following price increases by major US producers. Our base case scenario incorporates higher US prices in the near term, despite the initial negative reaction by the market. US stainless prices will go up in 2025 H2 and will stay elevated in 2026 as tariffs on stainless […]
